Logansport Mayor Chris Martin today announced the arrival of a professional basketball team to the city, marking a new chapter for local sports and community engagement. As a part of The Basketball League (TBL), the team promises high-energy games and an expanded role in community life. Mayor Martin stressed that this venture is about more than basketball; it’s about inspiring Logansport’s youth with values of teamwork, perseverance, and excellence.
TBL is a fast-growing professional sports organization focused on promoting athletic talent and community involvement. Founded in 2018, TBL operates with a unique mission: to provide world-class sports entertainment while engaging communities across the country, promoting local pride, and fostering economic growth through professional basketball.
The TBL currently has over 50 teams across multiple states, each playing in regional divisions. These teams span the nation, from the Northeast to the Pacific Northwest, with major franchises in Indiana, Texas, New York, and North Carolina, and teams stretching into Canada. Teams in TBL are grouped into conferences, fostering regional competition and rivalries that enhance local fan engagement. As Logansport’s team joins the league, they will likely be placed in the Central Division, alongside other Midwest franchises, enabling residents to follow their team’s progress within a familiar regional network.
Beyond the games, TBL places a strong emphasis on community service, mentoring programs, and youth engagement. Players participate in outreach initiatives and local events, aiming to serve as role models and create meaningful connections. TBL also integrates live entertainment with dancers, DJs, and fan engagement activities at each game, offering an immersive experience that attracts diverse audiences. By joining TBL, Logansport gains access to a league that values athletic excellence and community engagement, bringing Logansport residents an interactive sports experience and a team to rally around in their own hometown.
Beyond entertainment, the new team is expected to boost Logansport’s economy, creating local jobs and stimulating nearby businesses. Mayor Martin stated, “Our players will act as role models for young people, showing them what it means to dream big and work hard.” TBL President David Magley, who was present for the announcement, expressed his excitement about returning to his home state, saying, “We’re thrilled to bring something unique to Logansport.” Magley highlighted the TBL’s commitment to delivering an engaging experience with dancers, DJs, and live entertainment, making each game a full event for fans.
This initiative reflects a broader strategy to diversify Logansport's community offerings, stepping beyond its manufacturing roots and tapping into its evolving identity. Mayor Martin also hinted at future expansion with semi-professional football and baseball teams projected by 2026, underscoring his belief that “the love for sports and entertainment will never go away, and it’s something our community should embrace.”
For young residents, the team brings hands-on opportunities in fields such as broadcasting, social media, and event management, building skills that could guide future careers. Both Mayor Martin and the TBL view the team as a driving force for Logansport’s growth, aiming to foster local pride and showcase the city as a forward-thinking, dynamic community.
