In new business, the board approved a contract with Split Road Media for holiday-themed lightbox signs for the city’s Christmas in the Park event. The funding was confirmed to be available, and the contract was passed unanimously.
The Logansport Police Department presented its October 2024 report, detailing a busy month with 875 calls for service, 86 arrests, and 300 traffic stops. The department reported 60 citations and 320 warnings issued. Specialized units, including the Criminal Investigation Division and the Cass County Drug Task Force, handled various cases involving methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and other criminal activities. The department’s Traffic Division processed 32 parking tickets and addressed several vehicle violations within city limits, while Animal Control responded to 45 calls, with 15 animals being taken to shelters.
The board then unanimously approved the hiring of Tyler Grandstaff as a probationary patrol officer for the Logansport Police Department. Grandstaff, a 2021 graduate of Lewis Cass High School, brings experience from his previous role as a correctional officer at the Cass County Jail. He will undergo training at the police academy in January, pending acceptance, and will be the department’s final hire to reach full staffing levels.
The Street Department reported its October 2024 activities, including hauling 231 loads of brush and 81 loads of compost bags. The department collected over 165 pounds of recycled metal, filled numerous potholes, and completed tasks like catch basin cleaning and alley maintenance. Additionally, they managed emergency callouts and logged 72 hours of overtime during the month.
